چکیده

Lipid extract and fatty acid composition of cane molasses and yeasts (Saccharomyces cerevisiae M-300A and Saccharomyces uvarum IZ-1904) grown in molasses medium were determined. In molasses, linoleic acid was found in higher levels (around 42%) and was followed by palmitic, oleic and linolenic acids. The lipid extract varied from 1.02 to 3.13 gkg. In yeasts, the level of lipid extract varied from 16.65 to 31.12 g.kg (dry matter basis) depending on the molasses type and yeast species. Both yeasts were able to incorporate fatty acids from molasses' and therefore linoleic and palmitic acids were the major fatty acids found in them.

Yeasts isolated from sugar cane and its juice during the production of aguardente de cana.

Sugar cane plantations have been expanding over a large area of the world for many centuries. During that time, sugar and several types of liquor, particularly rum, have been manufactured in huge quantities. In Brazil, about 300 million L of aguardente de cana are produced annually (Anon., 1953) by distilling fermented cane juice. Although the natural yeast flora of sugar cane juice may contrib...

Investigation of yeast performances in the fermentation of beet and cane molasses to ethanol production

___________________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract In commercial ethanol production producers often use sugarcane or sugar beet molasses as raw material due to their abundance and low costs. The most employed microorganism used for fermentation is Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast due to its ability to hydrolyze sucrose from cane or beet molasses i...

Centrifugal Clarification of Molasses

The compositions of the various organic and inorganic species in cane molasses show wide variations. Centrifugation can be used to remove suspended so!id particles. The bulk of these are precipitated calcium compounds. Removal of calcium by precipitation and subsequent centrifugation can be enhanced by the addition of sulphuric acid. The effects of dilution, temperature, and acid addition on th...

The effect of sugar cane molasses on the immune and male reproductive systems using in vitro and in vivo methods

Objective(s): Sugar cane molasses is a commonly used ingredient in several food products. Contrasting reports suggest that molasses may have potential adverse or beneficial effects on human health. However, little evidence exists that examines the effects of molasses on the different physiological systems. This study investigated the effects of sugar cane molasses on various physiological syste...

Fermentation of molasses by Zymomonas mobilis: effects of temperature and sugar concentration on ethanol production.

Fermentations utilizing strains of Zymomonas mobilis, in place of the traditional yeasts, have been proposed due their ethanol yields being close to theoretical. Ethanol production from sugar cane molasses was analyzed under different culture conditions using Z. mobilis in batch fermentation. The total reducing sugars (TRS) concentrations in the molasses, temperature, agitation and culture time...
